Miss Jones, "Arakgum"

Arak is a Level 5 wild ghost from the spectral family.

In "Arakgum", it was awakened from its nest after Mike Collins indirectly caused a book to pull the web off a bookshelf in the NYC school library. It later ingested a piece of chewing gum and briefly became Arakgum.

Appearance[]

Kawai mode[]

Arak resembles a purple spider with four legs. Its face is shaped like a teardrop with pink eyes, black scleras, and two small upper fangs.

As Arakgum[]

Upon ingesting a strawberry-flavored chewing gum, Arakgum resembles a large pink spider with six eyes and eight legs.

Abilities[]

  • Flight: Arak can fly in both its kawai and booster modes.
  • Intangibility: Arak/Arakgum can phase through walls, floors, and generally solid objects. The only exception is when it is trapped in the Ghost Cloud or one of the Boo Caps.
  • Possession: As a merger ghost, Arak can gain additional powers by possessing objects. However, unlike most merger ghosts, it doesn't need to ingest people's fear before finding a receptacle. The only receptacle it was seen ingested was a piece of chewing gum.
  • Gummy Web: As Arakgum, it can weave out threads of spider web made out of sticky and resilient chewing gum. However, the web is sensitive to freezing temperatures.
  • Web Alarm: Arakgum's gummy webs act as tripwires where it can alert the ghost of anyone arriving at its territory.
  • Gummy Blast: Arakgum can shoot chewing gum projectiles to trap its target(s).
  • Gummy Shield: Since Arakgum's receptacle is a piece of chewing gum, it can blow a giant bubble from its mouth to shield itself from incoming attack. This power is unused, but confirmed on the official Ghostforce website.[1]

Trivia[]

  • "Arak" is the first two syllables of the English word "arachnid", an arthropod group that includes spiders.
  • The official Ghostforce website revealed that Arak is from a rare specimen.[1]
    • There are two Araks within the specimen that appeared near the end of the opening sequence; one being in its kawai mode and the other being Arakgum.
  • Despite being a ghost with extraterrestrial origins, Arak has mannerisms similar to Earth's spiders.
    • The way Arak grew four additional legs after switching to booster mode parallels how most real-life spider species can regenerate limbs following a molt cycle in their life.
  • Miss Jones mentioned that the Arak specimen collects its prey based on a specific color. This Arak collected humans and inanimate objects that have the color yellow. Considering it was originally purple in its kawai mode, its color preference makes sense since yellow and purple are complementary in the traditional RYB color model.
  • Arak and Grump King are the only wild ghosts whose kawai mode's abilities are currently unknown.
  • Arak, Freezofear, Spong, and Droplet are currently the only known merger ghosts without requiring to ingest people's fear before finding a receptacle to merge with.
    • Arak and Freezofear are also the only ones who are seen ingesting human food before they can boosted into its merged form.
  • Despite being from different ghost families, Arak and Glups both share the same face design in their kawai modes. There is a possibility that their specimens are closely related since Arakgum can trap human beings with its powers similar to a viscous ghost.
  • A ghost chess piece for Arak was first seen in "Somnibou".
