Myst, "Katastroph"

Katastroph are Level 7 wild ghosts from the bizarro family.

In "Katastroph", they were all awakened from their shared nest after it was shattered into pieces.

Appearance[]

Kawai mode[]

In their kawai mode, the triplets are spherical ghosts that each resemble an orange tabby cat. They each have orange eyes, black scleras, a pair of cat-shaped ears, three whiskers on both sides of their faces, two fangs, a yellow underbelly, and a tail. The only way to distinguish them individually is the number of markings on their forehead.

Booster mode[]

In their booster mode, the triplets all fuse into a singular being that resembles a three-headed tabby cat. The left head is the sibling with a triple forehead marking, the middle head is the leader with a singular forehead marking, and the right head is the sibling with a double forehead marking. Their booster mode gains them a singular body with four cat paws, a spiked collar for each of their long hydra-like neck, and stripe patterns on their body. Their tails are also fused to resemble a singular three-pointed tail.

Personalities[]

Katastroph 244

The Katastroph siblings all share the same mischievous nature and like scaring humans to feed on their fears. They also seem to enjoy playing fetch since they get distracted by Fury's Flexy Beam by its squeaky sound. However, each of the triplets has a distinguished personality that sets it apart from one another.

Katastroph 086

The left head, the sibling with the triple forehead marking, is sillier and more carefree since it always has its mouth open and its tongue sticking out no matter what situation the trio is in. When Fury accidentally caused his flexy slime to tie around Katastroph's tail, this particular sibling was the only one smiling in amusement while its leader wagged their tail in an attempt to shake him off. It seems to be at the bottom of the three heads' pecking order. When Krush once hit it with a fractal mace to protect Fury from having his Boo Energy drain, its two siblings don't seem to care much about the left head's state since they both silently agree to follow the Ghostforce while dragging the still-dizzy head along with them.

Katastroph 081

The middle head, the sibling with the singular forehead marking, serves as the leader of the trio since it always appears front and center in both kawai and booster modes. Not only does it fly ahead of its siblings in kawai modes, but this sibling seems to also be the one in charge of controlling their shared body in booster mode.

Katastroph 109

The right head, the sibling with the double forehead marking, seems to be more abrasive. It also doesn't seem to get along with its leader when they are in their kawai forms. When the Ghostforce attempts to round up the ghosts to trap them in Krush's fractal ice prison, the two can be seen angrily hissing at each other in their ghost language before the third sibling arrives. Despite their conflict, this sibling listens to its leader when the triplets all fuse into their booster mode due to the middle head being in control of their shared body.

Abilities[]

  • Flight: Katastroph can fly in their kawai and booster modes.
  • Intangibility: Katastroph can phase through walls, floors, and generally solid objects. The only exception is when they are trapped in one of the Boo Caps.
  • Kitty Screech: While the siblings didn't use their powers in their kawai modes, the official Ghostforce website mentioned that they could join together to create a screeching chant.[1]
  • Booster Mode Fusion: Once the triplets all feed enough fear, they fuse into a singular entity as their booster mode. For them to be boosted, all three siblings must be close together.
  • Nephelokinesis: Katastroph can cause the sky to be covered in dark clouds when they are in booster mode.
  • Individual Powers: Despite sharing the same parent(s), the triplets each have different powers from one another.
    • Kitty Drain: The left head's power is Kitty Drain which fires out a draining cone to suck Boo Energy from either another ghost or an individual that is fueled with it.
    • Kitty Goo: The middle head's power is Kitty Goo which fires sticky pink goo from its mouth to trap its enemies.
    • Kitty Howl: The right head's power is Kitty Howl which shoots out a loud sound wave to knock back enemies.
  • Kitty Combo: The triplets can combine each of their powers to create a singular devastating howling attack.

Trivia[]

  • Katastroph's kawai forms are first featured in a screenshot that Jeremy Zag posted on his Instagram on May 5, 2021.[2]
  • Their nest being a porcelain vase is a reference to how housecats are commonly known to knock fragile objects off a table because of their curiosity and hunting instincts.
  • Despite being ghosts who have extraterrestrial origins, each of the Katastroph siblings has mannerisms similar to Earth's cats, such as meowing and hissing. They also resemble that of orange tabby cats.
  • Their name is based on their feline appearance and a pun on the English word "catastrophe".
    • Some official sources would spell their name as either "Katastrophe", "Catastrophy", or "Cat-astroph".
  • The official Ghostforce website revealed that Katastroph is a very rare specimen.[1]
  • Katastroph having different personalities and resembling a three-headed creature in booster mode is a reference to King Ghidorah from the Monsterverse. They both feature the left head being the sillier one, the middle head as the leader, and the right head as the abrasive.
    • They can also be seen as a feline parody of Cerberus, a giant canine with multiple heads from Greek mythology.
  • In "Turbokorn", Katastroph was used as ammo for the Ghost Car. However, the Ghostforce only used the sibling with the singular forehead marking for its Kitty Goo power.
  • Katastroph is the first known set of sibling ghosts that the second iteration of the Ghostforce must capture.
  • Because they all share the same body in their booster mode, they seem to be hatched from the same egg laid by their parent(s).
