“ | Are you bonkers? If I get seen with [this flower bouquet] my rep as Cool Marlo is over. | ” |
—Marlo, "Sharkoak" |
Marlo is a recurring character of Ghostforce. He is a student in Professor Pascal's class at the NYC school located in Manhattan, New York City.
Appearance[]
Marlo is an average-height African American boy. He has moderate brown skin, brown eyes, and thick dark brown dreads. His hair is tied up in a ponytail with a turquoise tie, while his bangs cover his eyes.
He wears a white t-shirt covered by an open yellow jacket with turquoise highlights. He has turquoise, corded earphones wrapped around his neck. He wears black trousers with gray drawstrings and orange pocket linings. His sneakers are white with orange midsoles and black collars. The sneakers have a long black tongue, black shoelaces, and turquoise diamond embroidery.

Personality[]

Marlo is a laidback and easygoing pre-teen boy who believes himself to be the "coolest kid in school". His style is that of street culture since he enjoys skateboarding around Manhattan and dancing to hip-hop music. He even serves as the DJ for the school dance in "Creepop" because of his passion for music. However, it is his kindhearted and compassionate demeanor that makes him one of the friendliest students in the school and he gets along with all his classmates, even Drake. He is very loyal to his friends and is enthusiastic whenever he gets a chance to hang out with them.
He cares about his reputation as "Cool Marlo" to a great degree that he gets easily embarrassed about being judged by his peers for doing something that doesn't fit his self-image. In "Sharkoak", he wanted to surprise his mother with a flower bouquet for her birthday but he didn't want anyone, except Carla, to find out because he didn't want to be seen as a momma's boy. However, he's willing to put aside his reputation to help his friends in times of need. He is also not afraid to admit his fears in certain situations. Like everyone in his class, Marlo dislikes ghosts and he is just as afraid as his classmates whenever there's one suddenly appears in front of them. When the students all confessed their worst fears in "Grump King", Marlo bravely admitted that he's afraid of hairdressers since he knows his friends won't judge him.
Relationships[]
Carla[]

Carla with a flower bouquet Marlo requested her to purchase.
Carla seems to be Marlo's close friend since they sometimes hang out with each other. However, even he can be weirded out by her eccentric personality at times.
In "Sharkoak", he entrusted Carla to maintain his cool reputation after asking her to choose a flower bouquet that would be perfect for his mother's birthday gift. He was later frustrated with her when she decided to not meet in the back of the school building as promised due to her concern that the cold weather would ruin the flower scent.
Liv Baker/Myst[]

A misunderstanding where Marlo accidentally put a flower bouquet in Liv's locker.
Marlo sees Liv as a friend despite they never hang out with each other. They would sometimes interact with each other in the school hallways since they are both locker neighbors.
In "Sharkoak", a misunderstanding led Liv to assume he had a crush on her after Marlo accidentally placed a flower bouquet meant to be his mother's birthday present in her locker. He was embarrassed upon realizing his mistake but was unable to explain to her that the flowers weren't meant for her because he didn't want to come off as being in denial since Andy and Mike were also witnesses to the incident. He later broke into her locker to retrieve the bouquet before leaving the school to give it to his mother at Times Square.

Myst creating a spectral gate to get Marlo to safety.
He is currently unaware Myst is secretly Liv. He once interacted with her when she found him hiding from Sharkoak when the ghost terrorized Times Square, and unknowingly confessed to her that the flower bouquet was meant for his mother and was embarrassed when she questioned him about it.
Later, Marlo apologized to Liv for breaking into her locker to steal back the bouquet and admitted that he only liked her as a friend.
Mike Collins/Krush[]
Marlo may be a fan of Mike's father Michael Collins, but the friendship between the two boys seems to be genuine since he doesn't see Mike as just a son of the famous New York Dragons basketball player. In "Pharaok", he was the only classmate, besides Andy and Liv, who didn't laugh at Mike when Andy unintentionally embarrassed him by calling him "Pharases II" for arriving late to class.
He appreciates Krush's heroism in saving Manhattan from ghosts, once thanking the superhero for rescuing him from being Arakgum's captive after the ghost was captured.
Andy Baker[]

Marlo at Andy's birthday party.
Despite Marlo doesn't hang out with Andy, they get along with each other. He would often play in Andy's team whenever there was a basketball match between the latter and Drake. He was even invited as a guest for Andy's surprise birthday party in "Agia".
Drake Miller[]
Despite Marlo can be seen talking to Drake at the school entrance in "Trashotic", he doesn't like Drake's egocentric attitude and how the latter would constantly bullies Mike. When Drake once bragged that he's "the greatest basketball player of all time" in "Graffurious", Marlo sarcastically expressed praise to him before walking away.
Rajat[]

Marlo and Rajat having a friendly chat in the hallways.
Marlo and Rajat are good friends, and they sometimes hang out together at school. In "Criangle", they both have a conversation after class about how New York City is like a series of shapes and sizes since the skyscrapers are like big rectangles.
Charlie[]

Marlo seeing Charlie filming a ghost attack.
Marlo and Charlie sometimes hang out together at school. He is also aware of how reckless she can be whenever she wants to film a ghost attack for the Ghost Blog. When Gumglue terrorized the entire class at the American Museum of Natural History in the titular episode, he immediately dragged her out of the museum to protect her from it.

Trivia[]
- As revealed in "Grump King", Marlo's worst fear is going to the hairdresser. While he didn't state the reason, his fear seems to be specifically about meeting a hairdresser who might mess up his hair and shave parts of it off.
- "Marlo" is a gender-neutral name meaning "driftwood" or "remnants of a lake". This fits Marlo's easygoing personality since driftwood would flow slowly in a lake until they eventually washed onto shore.
- Although Marlo's eyes are covered by his bangs, there are rare instances in the series where his eyes are visible. His bangs don't always cover his eyes while skateboarding or when a gust of wind suddenly blows them aside. For instance, in "Creepop", Marlo's bangs were brushed aside right after the titular ghost merged with his boombox.
- Out of Professor Pascal's named students, Marlo has the least speaking lines.
- The only named students Marlo isn't seen interacting with within the series are Stacy and Jane.
