“ | Pull yourself together! We have a movie to shoot! | ” |
—Melissa Baker, "Mascarade" |
Melissa Baker is a recurring character of Ghostforce. She is the co-director of Solar-Man: The Movie along with her husband Jay Baker. She is also the mother of Andy Baker and Liv Baker.
Appearance[]
Melissa Baker has fair skin, long blue hair, and blue eyes. Her hair is tied into a bun with a pen sticking through it. She also has reading glasses placed on top of her head.
Her outfit consisted of a black shirt with a golden shooting star symbol, a white collared blazer, red jeans with a black belt and gray buckle, and a pair of brown-heeled boots.
Personality[]

Melissa is kind, level-headed, and hardworking. She used to live in California with her husband and their kids before they all moved to Manhattan after she and Jay landed their first directorial blockbuster Solar-Man: The Movie. Because the filming location is in Manhattan which is currently haunted by ghosts, she is constantly frustrated by the multiple setbacks they encounter on set that cause the crew to go further behind schedule. She usually tries to stay calm when dealing with these unexpected situations and improvises creatively to resolve them.
Melissa is very observant and compassionate towards others, always wanting to do whatever she can to help them feel better. In "Mascarade", she was the one suggesting that the crew take a break after noticing Serge Lightman kept forgetting his lines and wanting to avoid further stressing him out during shooting. She was also willing to delay the Baker family skiing vacation in "Panikokado", so they can all spend Christmas with Mike because she knows he is the best friend of her children and doesn't want him to be alone.

Relationships[]
Jay Baker[]

Melissa and her husband Jay both work as co-directors of the upcoming superhero blockbuster Solar-Man: The Movie. While Jay operates the camera to record a scene, Melissa is in charge of collaborating with the actors during the shooting. She seems to be more level-headed and organized than Jay, especially with the multiple setbacks they both encounter on set. In "Raijin", she was exasperated by Jay forgetting both their camera battery and memory card that they were forced to postpone the shooting at the Brooklyn Bridge as a result.

While the two have contrasting personalities, they both love each other dearly and work well as a team to try to complete the filming as possible. "Paniclick" reveals that they both share the same passion for movies and even collect vintage posters together. After they were both posterized by the titular ghost, they both joked about their situation of becoming a rom-com poster; Jay asked Melissa if she is planning on selling themselves, to which she remarked about giving a "two-for-one discount" so they won't get separated from each other. She later happily embraced Jay after they were both restored to normal after the ghost was captured.
Andy Baker and Liv Baker[]

Melissa loves both of her children and is always present for them whenever she and Jay have a day off from work. The official Ghostforce website reveals that she and Jay would help settle any family issues between Andy and Liv whenever they visit the set.[1]

She and Jay are both protective of their kids whenever there is a ghost in their proximity and try to get them away from it as soon as possible. For instance, in "Agia", they both sacrificed themselves for the titular ghost so their kids won't become its targets. When Melissa noticed that Liv wasn't frightened after they both saw Paniko at Times Square in "Panikokado", she was bewildered and told her that they should leave immediately.

Out of the two, she seems to be close to her daughter Liv since they are both level-headed and organized. In "Raijin", she took over Jay's phone call twice to let Liv know that he forgot the camera battery and later the memory card at home. She first asked Liv to bring them the camera battery at the Brooklyn Bridge so they could shoot Solar-Man: The Movie, but she later let her know that Jay forgot the memory card and told her that she didn't have to come because they decided to postpone it. In "Panikokado", she and Liv went to Times Square together to search for Mike when they were worried that he had gone missing.

As for Andy, Melissa is concerned about her son's education since he previously failed a grade before the family moved to New York City and is currently in the same class as Liv. In "Krik-Krok", she called Andy to check if he had brought his plant to Professor Pascal's class for his photosynthesis presentation. She even mentioned that she hoped he "gets a good grade for once" since she is always disappointed whenever he gets a D for his assignments. Despite this, she loves Andy dearly and even gives him a Fury action figure as a birthday gift in "Agia". When she noticed that Andy and Liv were arguing over whether he was too old to play with the toy, she quickly changed the subject to prevent Liv from further dampening his mood. She was also proud of Andy for starting to show appreciation for vintage technology in "Paniclick".

She is unaware that Andy and Liv are secretly Fury and Myst, respectively. Nonetheless, she appreciates them and the rest of the Ghostforce for protecting the city from the ghost attacks. After Fury rescued her and Jay from Krik-Krok's attack in its titular episode, Melissa was honored to meet him since they are his biggest fans. She even revealed to Fury that she sees him as a great role model for Andy and Liv.
Mike Collins[]
Melissa knows Mike is the best friend of her children as well as the son of the New York Dragons basketball player Michael Collins. While the two barely interact with each other on-screen, she indirectly suggests Mike join them on a Baker family movie night near the end of "Paniclick".
In "Panikokado", Melissa learned from Andy that Mike's father had "bailed" on him on Christmas Eve. Wanting to help Mike out, she suggested her husband and their children delay their vacation and surprise him at the Collins Tower so they can spend the holiday with him instead. When the Baker family realized that Mike was missing after seeing that he left his phone at home, Melissa was worried and formed two search parties to look for him.
Michael Collins[]
Melissa recognizes Mr. Collins as the celebrity basketball player that Andy idolizes. However, she doesn't know him very well and based on what her children tell her about Mr. Collins from the information they get from Mike, she perceives him as a busy father whose career prevents him from spending time with his son.
In "Panikokado", the Baker family all assumed that Mr. Collins "bailed" on Mike on Christmas Eve after Andy received a text from Mike, not knowing that he was trying to invite his son to come to Times Square but Mike misinterpreted what he was saying. This leads to Melissa deciding that the family should delay their vacation to the mountains to celebrate Christmas with Mike so he won't be alone. Following Paniko's capture, she and Jay finally met Mr. Collins when he invited the Baker family for a joint Christmas dinner where they both learned about the misunderstanding.
Serge Lightman[]
Melissa collaborates with Serge for the filming of Solar-Man: The Movie. While the two are barely seen interacting with each other, she is often concerned about the lead actor constantly forgetting his lines for the shoot. In "Mascarade", she suggested everyone take a break after nearly two hundred takes of Serge failing to say his line correctly. Despite later being under the influence of Mascarade, she agreed with Jay that Serge wasn't a lousy actor and tried to tell him to regain his composure so they could continue shooting the movie despite the ghost attack occurring.
Carla[]
Melissa met Carla in "Sandyrok" when her kids invited her to join the Baker family's visit to the fair at Central Park. She doesn't believe in Carla's story about her cousin once "got beamed on" a real flying saucer and assumed he was pranking her.
Stacy[]
Melissa doesn't know Stacy very well other than she is a classmate of Andy and Liv, and even mistakenly assumes she is their friend. In "Xhypno", she was impressed by Stacy's audition that she had her play a role as a damsel-in-distress in Solar-Man: The Movie after the previous actress walked out on the crew.

Trivia[]

Melissa panicked after seeing a ghost.
- Her name is misspelled as "Meliss" on the 2021 Ghostforce brand deck by Ypsilon Films.[2]
- This error also occurred in the description of her character biography on the official Ghostforce website.[1]
- While her current age is unknown, Jay mentioned in "Paniclick" that he and Melissa used to say "radical" back in their days. "Radical" is a slang popularized in the 1980s, so it's estimated that the Baker parents are both in their 30s.
- Melissa's cellphone cover has the same shooting star image as her shirt.
- Despite having reading glasses on her head, "Paniclick" is technically the only episode where Melissa is seen wearing it. This occurred after she had a tussle with Jay over the Star-Crossed Luvees poster.
