“ | All units remain calm. Lieutenant Callaghan is large and in charge! | ” |
—Officer Callaghan, "Burghorror" |
Lieutenant Tim Callaghan (also known as Officer Callaghan and, formerly, Sergeant Callaghan) is a recurring character of Ghostforce. He works at the New York City Police Department and is currently patroling the Manhattan borough of New York City.
Appearance[]
Officer Callaghan is a tall, muscular man with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a large chin.
His police uniform includes a cap with a yellow badge at the front, a collared shirt with a black necktie and star-shaped badge at the front, a pair of trousers fastened by a black belt with a golden buckle, and a pair of black boots. Each side of his shirt sleeve has the NYPD patch, albeit it is more stylized than its real-life counterpart. He also wears a black radio communicator around the right side of his body, a metal wristwatch, and a pair of sunglasses.
Personality[]

Officer Callaghan is a prideful, attention-seeking, but very dense police officer who is known to be devoted to his job, even if his way of patrolling the streets of Manhattan comes off as very excessive. He believes everybody, including non-human beings, is a law-abiding citizen and he is willing to confront those who are violating it, such as demanding a seagull to bring back his stolen sandwich in "Trashotic". Callaghan deeply despises ghosts for constantly attacking Manhattan and wants to do whatever he can to arrest them. However, he is very ignorant of the fact that ghosts behave similarly to wild animals and are impossible to capture because of their intangible bodies. He is too stubborn to realize it because every time he sees a ghost attacking Manhattan, he would recklessly confronts them instead of running away or evacuating the citizens, leading to him becoming a target for its attack.
Callaghan can get easily jealous whenever he is not the center of attention that he is willing to take credit for any heroic acts regardless if he participated in it or not. This was best demonstrated in "Burghorror" where upon seeing the opportunity to be famous on the Ghost Blog, he spent the entire interview boasting about himself and lying about how he took down Sharkoak at Times Square despite the public knew very well that it was the Ghostforce who caught it. Whenever the police unit asks him on the radio about the status of a ghost attack, Callaghan declares that he has everything under control and claims he has "subdued the ghost" despite he never contributed to helping the Ghostforce deal with the crisis.

He can also be very irresponsible and careless towards how he handles his role as a police officer, especially after one notable incident that occurred in "Graffurious". Despite the lack of concrete evidence, Callaghan was willing to arrest Liv Baker for graffitiing the Kasenti Tower based on a single witness accusation from Drake Miller and was too stubborn to listen to her alibi provided by her friends. He continued to blame her even after doing a "thorough investigation" to find the real culprit, but as soon as Bobby confessed near the end, Callaghan immediately acted like he knew it was Bobby all along and bragged that "nothing gets past" him. The entire incident not only revealed how much he hates being proven wrong while on duty, but he refuses to admit fault for his actions because he wants to satisfy his already large ego in front of his fellow citizens.
It heavily implies that Callaghan's current position as the lieutenant makes him believe he's above everyone else and has a sense of entitlement because of his duty, having once admitted out loud during a live television broadcast in "Biballoon" that he deserved the Medal of Honor more than Myst. He is so completely delusional about his grandeur that he's unable to notice what is the public's perception of him. Almost everyone he meets has felt nothing but exasperation by his attitude and unprofessional behavior, which has gotten to the point that the entire city trusts the Ghostforce more than him and has voted for Myst as one of their favorite citizens because they can't tolerate his incompetence.
Relationships[]
Roland[]

Callaghan is friends with Roland since the former is one of the Ghost Dog's regular customers. He is often seen trying out different menu items that Roland offers at the stand, such as a carrot donut sandwich in "Trashotic" and a hot dog topped with spicy pickle sauce in "Glougloux".
As revealed in "Tortress", Callaghan's visits to the Ghost Dog made him become entitled to the idea that he is Roland's favorite customer. Upon learning that he is the second best behind Andy Baker, whom he accused as a thief for forgetting to pay for his meal, Callaghan threw a fit without considering the fact he wasn't the only person that Roland regularly serves in the borough. He was later calmed down when Roland offered him a free hot dog for being his "best police customer", which Callaghan immediately forgave since he was the only known police officer to visit the Ghost Dog.
The Ghostforce[]
Despite knowing that the Ghostforce is always there to save Manhattan from the wild ghost attacks, Officer Callaghan is very envious of their heroic deeds around the borough and wants to do whatever he can to prove that he can handle everything without their help. However, because of how delusional and reckless he is, Callaghan has constantly put himself in danger within a wild ghost's path and is unable to comprehend that the heroes are the only ones with access to Boo Technology that can be used to fight them back.

In "Biballoon", Callaghan was upset upon learning that a majority of people voted for Myst as one of their favorite citizens and she got rewarded with a Medal of Honor from the New York City mayor. The only time when he showed some level of appreciation to the Ghostforce was after Biballoon's capture, but that wasn't enough to let go of his jealousy and become a better person.
In addition, Callaghan doesn't have any positive interaction with the three kids — Andy Baker, Liv Baker, and Mike Collins — in their civilian identities either.
When he noticed Mike was filming him for the Ghost Blog in "Burghorror", Callaghan was willing to lie about his alleged connection with the Ghostforce and attempted to steal credit for their work so he could be seen as a better hero than them, much to both Mike and Charlie's chagrins.

In "Graffurious", Callaghan almost arrested Liv when Drake Miller accused her of graffitting the Kasenti Tower without any proof. He even attempted to save the three kids from Breathrill by spraying it with paint, only for the ghost to merge with the spray paint can instead. And when Liv was later proven innocent after Bobby confessed his crime, Callaghan quickly shifted the blame and claimed that he knew it "all along", seemingly forgetting about his earlier action towards her.
In "Tortress", Callaghan mistook both Andy and Mike as thieves when he witnessed them forgetting to pay for their meals at the Ghost Dog. Even though Roland forgave the boys for their mistakes, Callaghan eventually forgets about them because he got distracted by Roland revealing that Andy is currently the Ghost Dog's best customer.

Trivia[]
- Despite Callaghan's rank as a police lieutenant, it is baffling that he can still patrol Manhattan without getting fired for his unprofessional behavior and carelessness toward the citizens.
- He is currently the only police officer to be seen in the series, but it is presumed that the rest of the NYPD units are currently patrolling in other boroughs of New York City.
- Callaghan's police car has a license plate that reads "ZAG-FTW", which is an obvious reference to ZAG Entertainment. The license plate number can also be seen on other vehicles in the series.
- In "Trashotic", Callaghan was ranked as a sergeant before being promoted to lieutenant.
- Callaghan mentioned in "Burghorror" that he took online karate lessons to "fight off" the wild ghosts, not knowing they are intangible and would instead phase right through him.
- Ironically, despite Callaghan being a law-dedicated individual, he is also a reckless driver and had once driven his car onto a sidewalk at 5th Avenue.
- In "Rozamour", Callaghan was hypnotized by the titular ghost into falling in love with his car.
