“ | Let's see. The power to freeze people combined with a timepiece would mean that... move it or lose it! | ” |
—Miss Jones, "Chronoklok" |
Petrifear is a Level 5 wild ghost from the bizarro family.
In "Chronoklok", it was awakened from its nest after a preteen accidentally dropped a paint spray bottle onto the Rubix's cube. It later merged with Mike Collins's smartwatch and briefly became Chronoklok.
Appearance[]
Kawai mode[]
In its kawai mode, Petrifear is a light-brown ghost with yellow eyes and black scleras. It also has multiple square blocks on its body and two rectangular eyebrows.
As Chronoklok[]
Upon merging with Mike's smartwatch, Chronoklok gains orange eyes and an orange "mouth". The top of its head is the dial of the watch with an orange basketball artwork, a black hour hand, and a red minute hand. The watch's steel bracelet straps serve as the ghost's arms that have orange edges. The bottom of Chronoklok is the watch's case back where the internal gears are.
Abilities[]
- Flight: Petrifear/Chronoklok can fly in both its kawai and booster modes.
- Intangibility: Petrifear/Chronoklok can phase through walls, floors, and generally solid objects. The only exception is when it is trapped in the Ghost Cloud or one of the Boo Caps.
- Possession: As a merger ghost, Petrifear can gain additional powers by possessing objects. The only receptacle it was seen merged with was a smartwatch.
- Petricharge: Petrifear can petrify any living beings by phasing through them, freezing their body and movement into an inanimate statue.
- Nephelokinesis: Chronoklok can cause the sky to be covered in dark clouds in booster mode.
- Timestop Bubble: As Chronoklok, it can release a giant basketball sphere when the hands on the watch dial are lined up. This would freeze not only people's movements inside but even time itself.
- Strong Arms: Since Chronoklok merged with a watch, its steel-reinforced bracelet arms can be used to protect itself from incoming attacks.
- Collins' Taunts: The watch has pre-recorded quotes from Michael Collins that are meant to be pro-tips for his fans. However, Chronoklok can use the pro-tips to taunt its enemies and distract them from attacking it.

Trivia[]
- Petrifear's name is a portmanteau of the English words "petrified" and "fear". While both words are adjectives for an individual being frightened, "petrified" also means an organic matter being turned into stone. This refers to the ghost having the ability to freeze people's movement.
- According to the pitch synopsis for "Chronoklok" on the 2021 Ghostforce brand deck by Ypsilon Films, Petrifear was originally going to be "Méli-Mélo". "Méli-mélo" is a French word that means a hodgepodge.[1]
- Chronoklok's name is a portmanteau of "chrono" and "klok". "Chrono" is related to time, while "klok" is the Dutch word for clock.
- The official Ghostforce website revealed that Petrifear is from a rare specimen.[2]
- Petrifear's nest being a Rubix's cube might be a reference to its creator Ernő Rubik being a sculptor and architect. The cube also has six faces each covered by nine stickers that are similar to Petrifear's square blocks on both sides of its body.
- Chronoklok is the first known ghost who attacked both Miss Jones and Glups after it froze time in the underground laboratory, albeit indirectly.
- Despite being from different ghost families, Petrifear and Criangle both have a similar physical appearance in their kawai modes.
