Piraniak is a ghost.
This article is about the ghost. You may be looking for the episode.

Ah! I remember reading about such a ghost during my undergrad research. Its name is... Piraniak! An incredible specimen last seen in the Caribbean hundreds of years ago.

Miss Jones, "Piraniak"

Piraniak is a Level 7 wild ghost from an unspecified family.[note 1]

In "Piraniak", it was awakened from its nest after Carla curiously opened it.

Appearance[]

Kawai mode[]

Piraniak is a rounded blue ghost that has a red pirate hat on its head and a golden anchor at the end of its tail. It has golden eyes, black scleras, a red tongue, and two white upper fangs. It also has two whiskers that resemble a thin handlebar mustache.

Booster mode[]

Piraniak resembles a giant sea serpent with a white underbelly. It has a treasure chest in the middle of its stomach where it stores all the gold and transforms it into doubloons. It wears an eye patch on its left eye and a ring on its pirate hat. It also grows a yellow goatee on its chin, while its whiskers become longer. The end of its tail has been changed from an anchor to a golden hook.

Personality[]

Piraniak is a greedy ghost with a huge obsession with gold. It would use its hypnotic powers to force individuals into hoarding anything made out of gold, so the ghost can transform the items into doubloons and spread its greed to everyone within its surroundings. It seems to also have a bit of a mischievous side and can't help but mess with a few people during its attack. When it saw Drake and Bobby taking selfies with the former's Power Gold, the ghost decided to photobomb it and winked at the camera right before hypnotizing the two boys. However, Piraniak's love for gold is also its downfall since the ghost got easily tricked into collecting Statue of Liberty after Fury sprayed it with yellow paint.

History[]

Pre-Series[]

Piraniak 158

Piraniak was reported to have attacked multiple pirate ships in the Caribbean Sea during the Golden Age of Piracy (between three to four centuries ago). It hypnotized people into collecting gold for the ghost before it went to booster mode. After reaching peak fear, Piraniak went to sleep inside a treasure chest that was collected by its victims. Following a shipwreck, the chest survived and traveled along the ocean for centuries.

However, because there was a lack of full human records of ghosts, Piraniak's attack faded into legends for modern historians. Its booster mode was mistaken for a mythical sea serpent that attacked the pirate ship and sunk everyone on board. An illustration of Piraniak's attack was later created and appeared in a book that Miss Jones read during her undergraduate studies.

Season 1[]

Piraniak 015

In "Piraniak", the treasure chest eventually made its way to Manhattan, New York City. Carla and Charlie were visiting the Brooklyn Bridge to test out the former's bizarro detector when it detected the treasure chest floating among East River. The girls curiously wanted to know what was inside the chest, so Carla got it onto the pier and opened it with her bobby pin. They learned too late that the treasure chest was a ghost nest, leading to Piraniak's awakening, and began hypnotizing various people into collecting gold for it.

Piraniak 112

Piraniak's attack got the Ghostforce's attention after the Boo Map alerted them about its presence near the bank at 5th Avenue. By the time they arrived, the ghost's victims had already gathered a huge gold pile in the middle of the street. Piraniak noticed Drake Miller and Bobby were taking selfies nearby and realized that the former was holding a Power Gold, a smartphone that had a golden case. It photobombed the selfie before hypnotizing the boys into surrendering the smartphone for it. Piraniak then went into booster mode where it proceeded to collect the gold pile with its treasure chest compartment and transformed it into doubloons. The doubloons rained down onto the street and caused various people, including Myst, to suffer from gold fever too. Piraniak then flew away to look for any more gold in Manhattan, leaving the Ghostforce to deal with a hypnotized Myst.

Piraniak 164

While Glowboo held back Myst, both Fury and Krush chased after Piraniak and learned about its attack in the Caribbean from Miss Jones. Piraniak went to the Collins Tower where it was intrigued to find Michael Collins's golden statue and was about to collect it. It then noticed Mr. Collins screaming and running up the stairs to take shelter inside the mansion, so the ghost startled him into falling from the rooftop. Krush quickly came to his father's rescue, while Fury was supposed to take care of the ghost. However, Fury's greed for wanting a Power Gold phone causes him to get distracted and instead dive down to catch Mr. Collins's phone, leading Piraniak to successfully collect the statue. The ghost then went to Times Square and hypnotized more people into having gold fever.

Piraniak 228

Later, Fury had to face Piraniak who was about to leave Manhattan to look for more gold. The ghost dodged Fury's incoming flexible slime before it knocked him away with its tail, causing him to crash-landed into the Statue of Liberty. Fury eventually realized that Piraniak's weakness was gold, so he used the Ghost Painter and sprayed the statue with yellow paint. Piraniak, not noticing what Fury did, was tricked into thinking the statue was made out of gold and quickly flew to Liberty Island to collect it. The ghost learned too late that the materials were copper and iron, causing it to get stunned since its treasure chest compartment couldn't convert the statue into doubloons. This allowed Fury to release Dragoyle and deboost Piraniak to its kawai mode before capturing it, restoring Manhattan to normal. It was later sent to the Ghost Cloud where it now resides with the other captive ghosts.

Abilities[]

  • Levitation: Piraniak can levitate in both its kawai and booster modes. Its flight mimics the movement of an eel swimming in the ocean.
  • Intangibility: Piraniak can phase through solid objects. The only exceptions are when it is trapped in the Ghost Cloud or one of the Boo Caps.

Piraniak can hypnotize people into collecting any materials made out of gold. When it enters booster mode, the ghost can use its treasure chest to suck all the gold items inside before transforming them into doubloons. Anyone who took a glance at the doubloons would instantly get hypnotized and become greedy for gold just like Piraniak.

Trivia[]

  • Piraniak's name is a portmanteau of the English words "pirate" and "maniac", referring to its pirate-themed appearance and greed for gold.
  • As revealed in concept art, Piraniak's booster mode was originally going to have a white beard and fin-like ears.
  • Piraniak's physical appearance has some traits associated with Captain Hook from the Disney adaptation of Peter Pan. This includes not only the handlebar mustache and the hat but also the hook at the end of its tail in its booster mode.
  • Piraniak, Pharaok, Dinozos, Grump King, and Freakking are the only known ghosts to have been asleep in their nests for centuries before their eventual awakening.
  • Miss Jones initially didn't have information about Piraniak in her database until Fury and Krush described the ghost's powers.
    • The French dub revealed Piraniak is from an extremely rare specimen.
  • In the illustration of Piraniak's booster mode that Miss Jones displayed on her computer interface, the ghost's tail was depicted with an anchor instead of a hook.
  • Piraniak's cycle level was never mentioned in its titular episode, but it was captured in a bronze Boo Cap reserved for Level 7 ghosts.
    • This makes the ghost's capture very ironic since there are golden Boo Caps but they are reserved for Level 9.
  • Piraniak, Gmagi, and Scaregrow are the only known ghosts that wear any type of hat as part of their physical appearances.
  • Piraniak, Octocat, Sharkoak, and Zipzap are the only known ghost specimens whose displacement is similar to a fish swimming in the water.
