Non-Canon Information This page is for a concept/character/etc. that didn't become, isn't considered, or hasn't been confirmed canon in the Ghostforce continuity. |
Professor Richenbach was a planned character from an old, unused concept of Ghostforce. He was a science teacher at Central High School who existed in several pieces of concept arts during its early development. However, the concept was discarded when the series premise was rewritten.
Similar to Miss Jones in the final version, he's the one who recruited three of his students to form the Ghostforce to protect Manhattan from ghosts.[2][1]
Appearance[]
Professor Richenbach was consistently depicted with white hair sticking up on both sides of his head due to pattern hair loss. As seen in one piece of concept art, he had brown hair during his youth. His eyes were depicted as either blue or green. He was always depicted wearing a white lab coat in concept art.
Abilities[]
- Intelligence: Professor Richenbach was depicted as a very intelligent man, having been able to discover the existence of ghosts who were originally "invisible to the human eye".[3]
- Master Engineer: Much like Miss Jones, Professor Richenbach built all the techological gadgets to allow the Ghostforce to capture ghosts.[4] He also built a laboratory underneath Central High School that served as the team's secret headquarters.[2]
- Master Scientist: Professor Richenbach was shown to be gifted in chemistry and worked as a science teacher at Central High School.
Relationships[]
Andy, Sam, and Nathalie[]
As depicted in concept art, three of Professor Richenbach's students were Andy, Sam, and Nathalie whom he recruited to be a part of the Ghostforce.
Flubby[]
Much like Miss Jones having a ghost companion named Glups, Professor Richenbach was mentioned to have befriended a ghost named Flubby.[1]
Trivia[]
- Professor Richenbach seems of German origin since his surname is an alternate spelling of Reichenbach.
- There are many differences between Professor Richenbach and Miss Jones:
- According to the early synopsis for the series, Professor Richenbach is a high school chemistry teacher. However, in the final version, the main trio is depicted as middle schoolers and their mentor Miss Jones is a regular scientist who doesn't teach them at their school.
- Unlike Miss Jones, one of the co-founders and original members of the Ghostforce before the three kids, there is never any mention of Professor Richenbach being a former ghost hunter. Rather, he is said to only invented "technology that enables humans to fight and capture ghosts" before he later recruited his students to form the Ghostforce.
- The reason why Professor Richenbach wanted to capture ghosts is that he was haunted by many evil ones since his youth.[5] However, in the final version, ghosts have been haunting the entire world since the Stone Age and the reason for their haunting is that they are wild. Miss Jones eventually discovered their existence sometime during her undergraduate years and her motivation for forming the Ghostforce is to capture and tame every single wild ghost before they continue to feed on people's fear and terrorize all of humanity.
- There is never any mention of why Professor Richenbach specifically chose the three kids to form the Ghostforce. In the final version, Miss Jones is a former active member of the Ghostforce who was forced to go into hiding ever since she became a half-ghost. She recruited the kids to form the second iteration of the team after ghosts began haunting Manhattan again.
- Two pieces of concept art depicted Andy testing out the Ectoforce with an unidentified character observing him. It's currently unknown who that character is since, like Richenbach, he was eventually replaced with Miss Jones.[6]
- Despite being replaced by Miss Jones as a co-founder of the Ghostforce, Professor Richenbach's role as the main trio's science teacher has been reused for Professor Pascal.
