This article is about the character. You may be looking for the episode.

I've never seen this specimen before. And judging from its Boo Energy concentration, that's gotta be a Level 9 and a very old and dangerous one of that.

Miss Jones, "Scaregrow"

Scaregrow is a Level 9 wild ghost from the spectral family.

In "Scaregrow", it was awakened from its nest after Andy Baker accidentally spilled Gamma Grower onto the scarecrow.

Appearance[]

Kawai mode[]

Scaregrow is a dark purple ghost that has yellow eyes and black scleras. The inside of its mouth is yellow, with a red tongue, and two white lower fangs. It has a pair of branch-like limbs at the bottom and yellow roots sticking out from its head. There is a large flat circle in the middle of its face and an orange band on its forehead that makes the ghost resemble a wide-brimmed hat.

Booster mode[]

In its booster mode, Scaregrow gains a body that resembles an actual scarecrow wearing a hat. The surface of its face resembles a burlap with a pair of large root-like eyebrows. It wears a purple sleeveless shirt that was sewn with three black threads. It also has a black belt with a yellow buckle. The front of the shirt has two patches sewn on; an orange patch and a red patch with white spots. Its arms and tail are made out of roots.

History[]

Season 1[]

Scaregrow 011

At some point, Scaregrow found an old scarecrow and started using it as a nest. In "Scaregrow", the scarecrow was placed at Central Park for Professor Pascal's class on gardening. Before the class arrived, two parkgoers were playing baseball a few miles away when the batter hit the ball and accidentally caused it to bump into the pole of the scarecrow. This disturbed the ghost from its slumber but it wasn't fully awakened yet.

Later, Andy Baker was determined to win a bet against Drake Miller over whose vegetable is going to be grown the biggest that he secretly took Drake's Gamma Grower from the trash can. When Professor Pascal dismissed the class, Andy poured a large amount of the chemical fertilizer onto his artichoke seed. He was almost caught by Liv and Mike that he impulsively kicked the bottle away to prevent them from seeing what he was doing. However, his action accidentally led to the bottle spilling Gamma Grower onto the scarecrow and caused Scaregrow to finally wake up.

Scaregrow 167

Scaregrow proceeded to attack some of Professor Pascal's students by trapping them in roots and shortly after it ingested Stacy's scream, it went into booster mode and left Central Park to terrorize 5th Avenue. The Ghostforce managed to rescue a few of their classmates from its attack, but the ghost finally noticed Myst when she opened a spectral gate underneath Drake and instantly started chasing her to Times Square. Myst was about to attack it with her spectral arrow but the ghost dodged it right before flicking her away with its fingertips. Fury then arrived and tied up both of Scaregrow's arms with his flexible slime. He began taunting Scaregrow that it wasn't big enough to fight back the Ghostforce, but he gave himself away when he mentioned the Gamma Grower which caused Krush to get upset with him for waking the ghost. Scaregrow then broke the flexible slime and fired a root toward the boys, but Myst opened a spectral gate and redirected the root to somewhere else.

Scaregrow managed to catch both Myst and Krush with its roots that it had gained enough Boo Energy and went back to Central Park to trigger its reproductive powers. It grew a giant apple tree with around seventy eggs ready to hatch, but Fury and Glowboo arrived to take it down. Scaregrow created two roots to try capturing the two heroes, but they tricked the ghost into tying itself up around the tree instead. This allowed Fury to release Dragoyle and deboosted it to its kawai mode before capturing it, restoring Manhattan to normal and causing all of the ghost's offspring to fade from existence. Scaregrow was later sent to the Ghost Cloud where it now resides with the other captive ghosts.

Abilities[]

  • Levitation: Scaregrow can levitate in both its kawai and booster modes.
  • Intangibility: Scaregrow can phase through solid objects. The only exceptions are when it is trapped in the Ghost Cloud or one of the Boo Caps.

Scaregrow can create invasive roots that can trap people. Because it is a Level 9 ghost, Scaregrow must ingest enough fear to create a giant apple tree and produce its offspring.

Trivia[]

  • Scaregrow's name is a pun on the English word "scarecrow".
  • In the French version, Scaregrow is known as Epouvanterre which is a pun on the French word "épouvanteur", meaning "spook".
  • This ghost is one of the many specimens that were recently discovered by the Ghostforce.
    • Because Miss Jones initially didn't have any record of this ghost specimen, it's currently unconfirmed if Scaregrow was active in the early 19th century. There were a few hints on the possibility since Professor Pascal mentioned that Central Park used to be a settlement for small farms when the park was originally Seneca Village. Miss Jones even described Scaregrow as "old and dangerous".
  • Scaregrow laid around seventy eggs before its offspring all faded from existence after it was captured.
