It bristles its fur to trigger its power!

Myst, "Scream Scratch"

Scream Scratch is a wild ghost from an unspecified family.[note 1]

In "Scream Scratch", it was awakened from its nest after Asta accidentally caused it to drop onto the floor of the underground laboratory garage.

Appearance[]

Kawai mode[]

In its kawai mode, Scream Scratch resembles a hedgehog with small dark green quill-like fur on its back. It is a light-green ghost with darker green scleras and yellow eyes. It has two small, stubby front limbs with three dark green claws.

Booster mode[]

In its booster mode, Scream Scratch's furs become much larger. It also gains two back limbs with three dark green claws.

Personality[]

Scream Scratch 219

While not much is known about Scream Scratch's personality, it is a mischievous ghost who likes creating chaos for its victims. Judging by its facial expression after going through the portal for the Ghost Car after Miss Jones accidentally turned it on, Scream Scratch can be quite curious about its surroundings before it finds someone to ingest their fears. The ghost seems to recognize Boo Caps as an object that can capture it since it quickly dodged out of the way when Glowboo was aiming his throw at it. Despite its enjoyment for chaos, Scream Scratch can get distracted and once followed Fury when the latter tricked the ghost into chasing after a giant "chew toy", which is Fury using a giant statue head from the Z Heroes Comic Books store and tied it with his flexi powers.

Abilities[]

  • Flight: Scream Scratch can fly in both its kawai and booster forms.
  • Intangibility: Scream Scratch can phase through walls, floors, and generally solid objects. The only exception is when it is trapped in the Ghost Cloud or one of the Boo Caps.
  • Flea Swarm: When Scream Scratch phases through a human being in its kawai form, it causes them to be covered in a swarm of fleas and becomes itchy.
  • Quills: In its booster mode, Scream Scratch can shoot quills from its back and transform people into giant furry pet toys. The victims can also transform other people by directly touching them. However, based on how Drake Miller and Bobby didn't get transformed despite being in the same place as Michael Collins and Alice Spancer after the latter two were transformed by the ghost's quills, the people who were already attacked by the ghost in its kawai form seems to be immune to it.

Trivia[]

  • As revealed on Ludovic Kirongozi's ArtStation, the ghost was originally named Fleatox.[3]
  • The ghost's name is based on its powers in its kawai form where it can cause victims to be covered in fleas and scream in fear while trying to scratch them away.
  • In the French version, the ghost's name is Gratouille. It is a wordplay on the verb "grattouiller", which means "itch" or "scratch".
  • Its appearance resembling a hedgehog is a subtle pun on a hedgehog flea. As its name indicates, that particular flea species is known to infest European hedgehogs and North African hedgehogs.
  • It is the first known ghost whose name isn't mentioned by the Ghostforce in its titular episode.
  • Scream Scratch's nest being a bag of dog treats makes sense since dogs are commonly known to have fleas infesting their fur.
  • Not counting Glups who is a tamed ghost, Scream Scratch was the second wild ghost loose in the lab after Glougloux.
    • Unlike Glougloux who was trapped in its Boo Cap before the second iteration of the Ghostforce accidentally caused it to escape, Scream Scratch is the first known wild ghost who was awakened from its nest inside the lab.
  • Scream Scratch, Petrifear, and Grump King are currently the only known ghosts who are seen attacking Miss Jones. However, unlike Petrifear whose merged form Chronoklok indirectly froze her in time while inside the lab, Scream Scratch is the first known ghost to attack her directly.
  • Scream Scratch and Glups are the only known ghosts who escaped from the lab via the teleportation portal meant for the Ghost Car.
  • The way Scream Scratch can fire its quills by spinning itself is a reference to the spin dash from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
  • It's currently unknown what Scream Scratch's cycle level is. Since it's trapped in a green Boo Cap, its level is somewhere between 2 and 6.
