Somnibou is a ghost.
This article is about the character. You may be looking for the titular episode.

Roosters wake people up, but this bird makes them sleep. So, let's call it "Snorebird"? No, that's dumb. Got it! "Somnibou"!

Fury, "Somnibou"

Somnibou is a Level 7 wild ghost from an unspecified family.[note 1]

In "Somnibou", it was awakened from its nest after a resident from Lexington Avenue accidentally caused the mattress on the back of her truck to be flung onto another car.

Appearance[]

Kawai form[]

In its kawai form, Somnibou resembles a small owl. It is a light bluish-purple ghost with light blue eyes, dark blue sclerae, dark periwinkle wings, a periwinkle tail feather, and a large periwinkle feather resembling an unibrow. It also has two fangs in both its overbite and underbite.

Booster form[]

In its booster form, it resembles a crested owl. Its wings are much larger with light-blue feather tips that can be fired as projectiles. Its tail can be opened and closed to release sleeping powder towards its enemies.

Abilities[]

  • Flight: Somnibou can fly in kawai and booster forms.
  • Intangibility: Somnibou can phase through walls, floors, and generally solid objects. The only exception is when it is trapped in the Ghost Cloud or one of the Boo Caps.
  • Sleeping Powder: When Somnibou phases through a human being in its kawai form, it causes them to fall asleep. Once it enters booster mode, it can release sleeping powder from its tail plumage onto people to quickly put them to sleep. It can even fire feathers from its wings to create a similar effect.
  • Night Inducement: Upon reaching booster mode, Somnibou can induce nighttime in its surroundings. The sun would be covered and make the environment come off as it's already nighttime. However, it is still being determined if this power only affected New York City and not the rest of the planet.

Trivia[]

  • Somnibou is one of the many ghosts whose specimen was recently discovered by the Ghostforce.
  • The name Fury gave to this ghost is a play on the English word "somnambulism", a phenomenon commonly known as sleepwalking.
    • He was originally going to call the ghost "Snorebird", a pun on the masculine name "Norbert". However, he found the initial name dumb, likely because it sounds similar to an actual bird species called shorebirds.
  • Despite being a ghost with extraterrestrial origins, Somnibou can hoot like Earth's owls.
  • The way Somnibou can make people fall asleep and its booster mode can induce nighttime both reflect how owls are nocturnal birds. They are more active at night to easily hunt their prey than in the daytime.
  • Somnibou can get easily distracted by Glowboo's bulby trick. This alludes to how bright lights can deter owls from hunting at night.
  • Somnibou and Batata are the only known ghosts to resemble a nocturnal animal from Earth. They can also make their surroundings covered in darkness to attack humans when in booster mode.
  • Somnibou's cycle level was never mentioned in its titular episode, but it was captured in a bronze Boo Cap reserved for Level 7 ghosts.
